"Law enforcement is prepared to arrest individuals in accordance with applicable law. Non-UCLA persons are notified to leave the encampment and depart the campus immediately." Columbia University officials had earlier threatened academic expulsion of the students who had seized Hamilton Hall, an eight-storey neoclassical building blocked by protesters who linked arms to form a barricade and chanted pro-Palestinian slogans. Administrators at the university said in a 12.40am statement that they had called in law enforcement officers to stem the violence. The Los Angeles Times reported that a group of security guards could be seen observing the clashes, but that they did not intervene. The UCLA campus police (UCPD) showed up shortly after 11pm to break up the conflict, but left within minutes, the Daily Bruin, UCLA’s student newspaper, reported. Across the train tracks from the Northrup King Building, Indeed Brewing Company draws crowds with delightfully unusual craft beers and an inviting taproom filled with whimsical art.

Admission is by donation, an effort to remove all barriers to attend performances, which recently included “The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington,” a satire by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright James Ijames. All those bodies working in unison, in fact, is what makes dumplings a celebration food in Chinese culture. And you’ll also want to go heavier on the salt than you would ordinarily on both varieties because the dough wrapper will subdue the seasonings. You also might consider using a tortilla press if you’ve got one handy — especially if you’re intimidated by the thought of all that rolling. “It’s just we always made the dough from scratch,” Che says on an early morning phone call from Dali in China’s southwestern Yunnan province, where she is working on a second cookbook that will focus on tofu. It would have been quicker and easier to use the inexpensive frozen wrappers you can find in any Asian market, and she’s quick to point out there’s no shame in going the convenience route.

At the University of Wisconsin in Madison, police took down all but one tent at an encampment where officers with shields shoved protesters, resulting in a scrum and at least a dozen arrests. Four officers were injured, including a state trooper who was hit in the head with a skateboard, according to University of Wisconsin police spokesperson Marc Lovicott. Brown University, another member of the Ivy League, reached an agreement Tuesday with protesters on its Rhode Island campus. Demonstrators said they would close their encampment in exchange for administrators taking a vote to consider divestment from Israel in October. The compromise appeared to mark the first time a U.S. college has agreed to vote on divestment in the wake of the protests.

The nationwide campus protests began at Columbia in response to Israel's offensive in Gaza after Hamas launched a deadly attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7. Militants killed about 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and took roughly 250 hostages. Vowing to stamp out Hamas, Israel has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to the local health ministry. On Wednesday, UCLA canceled classes and urged people to avoid the area where the fighting broke out. The school's library won't reopen until Monday and Royce Hall, which authorities said was vandalized, is closed through Friday. The spokesperson also said the school's president "requested a detailed accounting from the campus about what transpired in the early morning hours today."

It’s an easy 2.7-mile loop that can be extended by continuing south to Bde Maka Ska, a larger oval lake with areas for fishing, swimming, biking and canoeing along the popular three-mile pedestrian path. Or instead, you could easily spend an hour exploring the Northrup King Building, a massive brick industrial complex in the Northeast that now houses more than 300 art studios, galleries and shops. Dumplings take quite a few forms in China, depending on the province and region, says Che. Since both parents are from northern China, her family mostly ate boiled dumplings. Dumpling-making was also very much a joint effort, with her father rolling the homemade dough wrappers, most everyone else filling and pleating them and her mom handling the cooking.

People threw chairs and other objects and at one point a group piled on a person on the ground, kicking and beating them with sticks until others pulled them out of the scrum. Many visitors start the morning with a stroll along the Mississippi River for views of the historic Stone Arch Bridge (temporarily closed for preservation work) and the dueling Pillsbury’s Best and Gold Medal Flour signs, which are on opposite banks. Nikuman-Ya is running the gyoza racket in Gardena, and that should really say enough. Sure, the cheese-pork-bun sounds a little stunt-dumpling, but the original gyoza is gingery, juicy goodness that's just seared on the bottom and warrants a taste if you're in the area. SGV OG Clarissa Wei described Luscious Dumplings' rapid hand-made dumpling process in a feature on Eater, but don't mistake the speed with which they're made as impugning on their quality. In a news conference Wednesday morning with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, police officials said 173 people had been arrested at City College, and 109 at Columbia. A breakdown of how many were students is expected later Wednesday, the NYPD said. "After the University learned overnight that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalized, and blockaded, we were left with no choice," the school said.

It currently features possibly L.A.'s first stunt-dumpling (corn cheese dumplings, anyone?), but don't be fooled. Traditionalists rave about the standard entries including the kimchi wang mandu and what some call the best gogi wang mandu (meat bread dumpling) in Koreatown. It matches Myung In's optimal wrapper-to-filling ratio and ups it with a savory filling that's neatly balanced flavor-wise.

Flouting conventions of academic writing, Zampanò narrates the lives of the Navidson family during the events depicted in The Navidson Record, set in April 1990, including unfilmed events sourced from media and public records. The family are Will Navidson; his unmarried partner, Karen Green, a former fashion model; and their two children, Chad and Daisy. The novel is written as a work of epistolary fiction and metafiction focusing on a fictional documentary film titled the Navidson Record, presented as a story within a story discussed in a handwritten monograph recovered by the primary narrator, Johnny Truant. The narrative makes heavy use of multiperspectivity as Truant's footnotes chronicle his efforts to transcribe the manuscript, which itself reveals the Navidson Record's supposed narrative through transcriptions and analysis depicting a story of a family who discovers a larger-on-the-inside labyrinth in their house. There is also another female narrator, Truant’s mother, whose voice is featured through a series of stand-alone letters titled The Whalestoe Letters. Each narrator’s text is printed in a unique font, making it easy for the reader to follow the novel’s occasionally challenging format (Truant in Courier New in the footnotes and the main narrative in Times New Roman in the US version).

Even as he grows increasingly unstable, Truant remains steadfast in his editorial work, neglecting all else. Navidson's camera captured himself attempting to read a book titled House of Leaves in total darkness; having lost all supplies, he resorted to burning the book page by page to provide light for reading. She turned to filmmaking herself to reconcile her relationship with Navidson, while also showing his footage to literary, artistic, and scientific authorities such as Stephen King, Stanley Kubrick, Douglas Hofstadter, Ken Burns, Harold Bloom, Camille Paglia, Hunter Thompson, Anne Rice, and Jacques Derrida. Navidson, still investigating the house, sought explanations from laboratory analysis, only to learn that samples taken from the maze are older than the Earth itself. The explorations, already challenged by the maze's inhospitable, vast, and ever-shifting nature, finally led to disaster when one of the crew turned on the rest.

Johnny Truant

The novel has gone on to inspire doctorate-level courses and masters theses, cultural phenomena like the online urban legend of “the backrooms,” and incredible works of art in entirely unrealted mediums from music to video games. Though Truant attributes Zampanò as the author of The Navidson Record, Truant offers few concrete details about Zampanò's character or past, citing only information learned from his former acquaintances. These include neighbors and various students and social workers, exclusively female, who volunteered as readers for Zampanò's research. Unable to even determine Zampanò's full name, Truant only confirms that Zampanò became blind some time during the 1950s, and was approximately eighty years old at the time of his death.

Zampanò cites research and medical records as evidence that Karen radically transformed her personality while in high school to become indifferent and aloof, and also that Karen suffered from chronic claustrophobia. Will Navidson is described as having become a successful war photographer thanks to an early military career in war-torn regions, though haunted by his role as an impartial documentarist of war. Navidson is said to be a Pulitzer winner and recipient of prestigious arts grants, who has jeopardized his relationship with Karen due to years of prolonged absences while working overseas.

House of Leaves refers to Poe and her songs several times, not only limited to her album Haunted, but Hello as well. One example occurs when the character Karen Green is interviewing various academics on their interpretations of the short film "Exploration #4"; she consults a "Poet," but there is a space between the "Poe" and the "t," suggesting that Poe at one point commented on the book. Arriving at the house to help Navidson measure its dimensions, Tom is said to have improved the family's relationships and mood during his presence.

Truant also learns that Zampanò was erratic and capricious in his lifestyle and writing habits, diagnosing him with graphomania. House of Leaves was accompanied by a companion piece (or vice versa), a full-length album called Haunted recorded by Danielewski's sister, Anne Danielewski, known professionally as Poe. The two works cross-pollinated heavily over the course of their creations, each inspiring the other in various ways. Poe's statement on the connection between the two works is that they are parallax views of the same story.

After several ordeals, one explorer was killed and another rescued, but the house itself then transformed in a hostile fashion, killing Navidson's brother Tom and forcing the family to frantically escape. While trying to find the history of a residence can be very difficult there are some things you can do at the Los Angeles Public library to start such a search. House of Leaves opens with a first-person narration by Johnny Truant, a Los Angeles tattoo parlor employee and declared unreliable narrator. Truant is looking for a new apartment when his friend Lude tells him about the apartment of the recently deceased Zampanò, an old blind man who lived in Lude’s house. More paradoxically, Truant notes that Zampanò purports to authoritatively write about filmmaking and cinematography despite being blind. At the same time, Truant's own factual errors, limited knowledge, and open admission to adulterating Zampanò's work also throw his own reliability into question. The text is further marred by missing pages, missing footnotes, missing supplemental documents, and text accidentally or deliberately destroyed by Zampanò, Truant, or unknown causes. In support, Zampanò cites or quotes articles, journals, symposia, books, magazines, TV programs, and interviews, many supposedly dedicated to this film. Zampanò discusses not only Navidson's filmmaking techniques, but also segues into topics such as photography, architecture, Biblical studies, and radiometric dating, often interspersing overwhelmingly esoteric tangents, several of which devolve into nonsensical, page-long lists of only superficially relevant items.

Forbidden by Karen from entering, Navidson delegated exploration to a crew of professional explorers, who found, beyond the hallway, a maze-like complex containing an enormous spiral staircase which appears to descend endlessly. In the maze, they recorded footage of a multitude of corridors and rooms, completely unlit and featureless, with smooth ash-gray walls, floors, and ceilings. The maze is said to be silent save for the sound of a periodic low growl, which is never fully explained. At Zampanò’s apartment, Truant discovers a manuscript written by Zampanò, which turns out to be an academic study of a documentary called The Navidson Record, though Truant says that he can’t find any evidence that the film ever existed.

A handyman by trade, Tom is said to be a contented underachiever with no fixed residence or attachments, as well as a recovering alcoholic. He is also described as comical and well-liked by all his acquaintances, in contrast to Navidson's cold professionalism. Much of this information is attributed to a supposed 900-page scholarly treatise analyzing the Navidson brothers as parallels to the Biblical brothers Esau and Jacob. Zampanò's text includes an entire chapter extending this analysis, but most of the text is destroyed without explanation.

In the beginning of the book, Truant appears to be a normal, reasonably attractive young man who happens upon a trunk full of notes left behind by the now deceased Zampanò. As Truant begins to do the editing, however, he begins to lose the tenuous grip he has on reality, and his life begins to erode around him. He stops bathing, rarely eats, stops going to work, and distances himself from essentially everyone, all in pursuit of organizing the book into a finished work that, he hopes, will finally bring him peace. Johnny Truant serves a dual role, as primary editor of Zampanò's academic study of The Navidson Record and protagonist as revealed through footnotes and appendices. Through its Central Library and 72 branches, the Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.

Also new is the Blackmagic Proxy Generator app, which automatically creates and manages proxy files from your original clips, lessening hardware overheads for high resolution projects. There are clear IN and Out buttons to make edits faster, and Insert buttons to add the clip you have chosen to the edit. Perhaps best of all, buying the Speed Editor means you get a free copy of DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio. You have three mode choices, Perspective, Similarity, and Translation. Perspective is the standard version that takes into account motion on any axis.

Honest, Objective, Lab-Tested Reviews

The Blackmagic Cloud allows you to host project libraries on the DaVinci Reserve Project Server, allowing up to 10 people to collaborate as long as they have a local copy of the media. The cost is just $5 per month per project while it’s stored on the cloud server. It’s designed to edit Blackmagic RAW files from the company’s own cinema cameras, but can edit a wide range of regular video formats too. The hardware is equally good, with the Speed Editor being a useful addition to making fast edits. It’s not for color grading work, but useful in quick edits which might be important to you. And the asking price is the same as the Studio software alone, so it's really the only way to buy DaVinci Resolve Studio that makes sense, unless you got it free with a camera purchase.

Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 review

It’s important to remember that this is only a beta release, so you shouldn’t rely on DaVinci Resolve 18.5 for critical projects. Hopefully, the official release will come in the next six months, however, so we shouldn’t have too long to wait. DaVinci Resolve 18.5 can now upload videos directly to TikTok, which is great if you are a content creator. The beta version also supports the OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) format, making it easier to import and export timelines from other NLE applications. In addition, Fusion now supports Universal Scene Descriptor files for easier collaboration between VFX artists.

Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 18.5 gets official release

If you want to dig deep into pro video editing, you can hardly do better than DaVinci Resolve. Blackmagic Design has announced the latest version of its DaVinci Resolve video editing, color grading and visual effects program. DaVinci Resolve 18.5 introduces dozens of new tools, including four new AI tools, over 150 feature upgrades, and major updates to the Cut page. DaVinci Resolve is one of the most comprehensive editing applications available, enabling a professional standard not just in nonlinear editing but in color grading, audio post, and visual effects. It gets better with every update, and there are some great new features in Resolve 17.

Other new features

I’ve been reviewing software for PCMag since 2008, and I still get a kick out of seeing what's new in video and photo editing software, and how operating systems change over time. I was privileged to byline the cover story of the last print issue of PC Magazine, the Windows 7 review, and I’ve witnessed every Microsoft win and misstep up to the latest Windows 11. Because of its complexity, though, it’s not the best choice for less experienced editors. If you want to create basic videos without spending much time learning the ropes, there are better options, such as Hitfilm Express. However, some improvements in Resolve 17 have made the interface more intuitive.

Another new feature is ‘Intelligent Media Management’ to make it easier to stay linked to assets when you’re working remotely or collaborating with others. Blackmagic claims low latency and high-quality 10-bit images ideal for remote editing, grading and instant feedback. Available only on the Studio version is Neural Engine, which adds artificial intelligence object removal, Auto Color Balance and Matching and facial recognition software.

Studio version and Speed Editor

Use of proxy media makes this more efficient, and the software integrates with Frame.io, an online collaborative video editing platform that can sync projects. All video editing software requires a high-spec computer to run well, and DaVinci Resolve Studio is no exception. In a nutshell, you can enjoy support for AVCHD, AVC-Intra and H.264 using ALL-I intraframe encoding, as well as 10-bit encoding.

Controls for any effects you apply show up in the Inspector panel, which you can open from the top right button. You can control any effects for which they make sense with keyframes, which smoothly animate the effect’s position or intensity from the start keyframe to the end one. Other free video editing applications include Hitfilm Express, VSDC, and iMovie.

Resolve FX Beauty now has an “Ultra Beauty” tool for skin smoothing and detail recovery, subtitle support has been improved and it’s now possible to reverse Shape, Iris and Wipe transitions. A new Object Mask can recognise and track the movement of “thousands”” of objects and the DaVinci Neural Engine can isolate animals, vehicles, people, food and more. A new Depth Map effect can generate a 3D map of a scene to grade foreground and background separately, and it’s now possible to attach graphics to surfaces that warp or change perspective. The key thing is that as well as the paid DaVinci Resolve Studio version, there’s a free DaVinci Resolve 18 version that anyone can download and use, and which offers amazing capabilities at no cost.

All of these tools will save users hours, if not days of hard manual work but they do bring a steep learning curve since they’re advanced features. One way of speeding up your workflow in the edit is to use the $295/£225 DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor keyboard which can let you edit using both hands. It’s a professional-style keyboard with transport controls on the right side and edit functions on the left. This means you can use the search dial and source tape buttons with your right hand to locate the shots you want.

This tool is only available in the paid Studio version of DaVinci Resolve. DaVinci Resolve 18 Studio costs $294/£294 (inc VAT)/AU$479 (inc tax), but this is a lifetime license and all future upgrades are free. If you already have a Studio licence, the v18 update will be provided free. DaVinci Resolve Studio is also free with Blackmagic cameras and desktop controllers (at the time of going to press). With DaVinci Resolve 17 offering far more features than rival NLEs, you would it expect it to run slower and be more memory-intensive. But the reality is the free versions runs as quickly as most rivals' editing suites.

Cloud collaboration

It has industry-standard colour processing used by some of the biggest films, and with improved audio and HDR tools, it’s even better. Best of all, the basic version is free while the full-spec version is only £225 or free if you buy the £225 Speed Editor! But it is complicated and takes some getting used to if you are coming from other NLEs (non-linear editors). When using the free version, I did run into a message telling me “Your GPU memory is full,” something that has never happened while testing video editing software before. Halving the resolution corrected the problem, though processing the proxies wasn’t immediate, with the preview going still for a while.

In addition, you can export your timeline to the Blackmagic Cloud using the new Presentations feature. Other people can then review the timeline and leave comments that appear as markers. Three new menus have been added to the Cut page timeline in Davinci Resolve. You can use the timeline options, timeline actions and edit actions to toggle ripple editing and trim edit points to the playhead. In addition, you can now carry out scene cut detection on the Cut page. Other new features include the ripple button, which enables and disables rippled edits, and Split A/V, so you can adjust the edit point for video or audio separately.

He contributes to Future sites including TechRadar and Creative Bloq, focusing on subjects including creative software, video editing, and streaming services. This work draws on his experience as an independent filmmaker and an independent TV watcher. He can be found on Twitter at @KieronMoore, usually when he’s meant to be writing.

And, there are five further workspaces — Media, for importing footage; Fusion, for effects; Color; Fairlight, for audio; and Deliver, for exporting. The Color page is as good as any application designed specifically for color grading, and Fairlight matches up to any audio-specific program. The latest version, DaVinci Resolve 17, includes significant improvements to several features and was released in public beta form in November.

Using this, and the other new features is truly mind-blowing because the tool’s effects are incredibly precise. It’s the software you will never outgrow, and at a price that’s impossible to ignore. Buy the Speed Editor, get the Studio version free and for $295/£225 you have industry-standard post production that works in all resolutions and bit rates.

This also can be seriously complicated to use, but DaVinci Resolve does at least provide some quality local documentation to help you get started. Import multiple clips and you're able to sync them automatically via audio. With DaVinci Resolve 18.5, you can now initiate remote monitoring using just a Blackmagic ID and a session code.

Zoom rebrands as Zoom Workspace 6.0, an AI-powered update packed with new features

There are more options in the Fairlight audio page and in the Effects Library, too. And the Studio Version offers Dolby Vision in addition to the HDR10+ in the Color page, and there is support for Arriflex cameras. From here, the Color page is a full-on Hollywood-level colour correction and grading tool including Wide Gamut and HDR images.

The Studio version can work up to a massive 32K resolution and up to 120fps. You can also get full screen playback on a second monitor, lens correction software and the noise reduction software is far more advanced. Blackmagic is to be congratulated on its help document for DaVinci Resolve—it’s a PDF of over 4,000 pages! I appreciate the detailed instructions and information, but that size alone indicates the complexity of the application. If that’s not enough, a web search can find a wealth of online video tutorials from enthusiastic users.

It means editors, colorists, effects artists and audio engineers can work on the same project at the same time. DaVinci Resolve’s unique Fusion Studio editor uses a node-based editing workflow beyond the ken of the average enthusiast-level video editor. It’s basically an input/output system, where you add effects and media along the flowchart and connect one node's output to another node to its right. You can reuse effect groups or restrict them to selected parts of the image. Like Final Cut and Premiere Pro, DaVinci offers take selectors, compound clips, and nested timelines, so timelines can be very flexible (and complex). The main one at the bottom shows image frame previews and audio waveforms, while the solid blue one at the top is useful for navigation.

Once accustomed to the interface, you’ll find that Resolve links its many functions together smoothly. The primary knobs can be used to control Y Lift, Y Gamma, Y Gain, Contrast, Pivot, Mid-tone Detail, Color Boost, Shadow, Highlight, Saturation, Hue Rotation and Luminance Mix. Pro video hardware is always expensive, and one compromise often seen in more affordable versions is more plasticky controls, with poorer feel. But BlackMagic says that this Micro Color still has weighted trackballs and precision knobs. This allows you to soften or harshen skin alongside being able to use it to recover detail. And while this is by name is aimed at skin and beauty, the tool can also be used on other elements including objects and backgrounds.

This means you can now import USD data such as geometry, lighting, cameras, materials and animation. There are also new Fusion tools to manipulate, relight and render files and the native AI-based Depth Map tool is now supported. In DaVinci Resolve 18.5, the Cut and Edit pages now have an auto subtitle feature to transcribe speech automatically into a subtitle track on the timeline. The ‘transcribe’ feature has also added speech-to-text editing, which automatically transcribes video and audio clips. This means you can search for specific terms or jump to the section of a clip where a word appears without having to listen to whole scenes or interviews.

For enthusiasts, our Editors' Choice winners include Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro. Both of these have more in common with entry-level software, starting with much less of a learning curve than DaVinci Resolve. As you can see in the chart, DaVinci performs respectably in the middle of the group. When you start a project, you see a bare-bones window with a single Untitled Project entry. There’s not a lot of the kind of assistance Adobe is adding to Premiere Pro, nor the amount of hand-holding you get in consumer-focused apps such as Movavi Video Editor Plus.

As a conciliatory gesture, Navidson commits to prioritizing family over work by moving to the countryside. After promising Karen not to enter the hallway, he sends a crew in his stead to explore the maze, but privately chafes at this prohibition and breaks his word behind Karen's back. Pelafina, more commonly referred to as simply "P.", is Johnny's institutionalized mother who appears in the appendix to the text.

About the author (

The Whalestoe Letters

Johnny Truant

Now this incredible novel is available in book form, complete with full-color original words, vertical footnotes, and second and third appendices. In "Exploration #4", an expedition planned to last over a week, Roberts exhaustively provisioned his team, and also brought a gun. On their return after reaching the bottom of the staircase, they found their own caches of supplies vandalized by unknown causes.

The Navidson Record

Truant also learns that Zampanò was erratic and capricious in his lifestyle and writing habits, diagnosing him with graphomania. House of Leaves was accompanied by a companion piece (or vice versa), a full-length album called Haunted recorded by Danielewski's sister, Anne Danielewski, known professionally as Poe. The two works cross-pollinated heavily over the course of their creations, each inspiring the other in various ways. Poe's statement on the connection between the two works is that they are parallax views of the same story.

Though many of the academic works Zampanò cites appear to analyze the Record purely as a work of horror fiction, Zampanò's writing remains adamant as to its authenticity. Now, for the first time, this incredible novel is available in book form, complete with the original full-color words, vertical footnotes, and the newly added second and third appendices. Though Pelafina's letters and Johnny's footnotes contain similar accounts of their past, their memories also differ greatly at times, due to both Pelafina's and Johnny's questionable mental states. Pelafina was placed in the mental institution after supposedly attempting to strangle Johnny, only to be stopped by her husband.

My Library Account

Loose sheets, stained napkins and crammed notebooks prove to be far more than the ramblings of a crazy old man . What happens next is loosely recorded on videotapes and interviews, leading to a compilation of the definitive work on the events on Ash Tree Lane, unveiling a thrilling and terrifying history. Billy Reston is described as an African-American engineering professor at the University of Virginia, rendered paraplegic by a construction site accident near Hyderabad. Reston is said to be a longtime friend of Navidson, who photographed the very moment of Reston's accident.

House of Leaves: The Remastered, Full-Color Edition

Zampanò cites research and medical records as evidence that Karen radically transformed her personality while in high school to become indifferent and aloof, and also that Karen suffered from chronic claustrophobia. Will Navidson is described as having become a successful war photographer thanks to an early military career in war-torn regions, though haunted by his role as an impartial documentarist of war. Navidson is said to be a Pulitzer winner and recipient of prestigious arts grants, who has jeopardized his relationship with Karen due to years of prolonged absences while working overseas.

Believing an unseen creature roamed the maze, Roberts set out to hunt it, imperiling the team's return journey. When he accidentally wounded Hook, Roberts began hunting his own team to cover up his crime, ultimately killing Leeder. Parallel to the plot of the Record, Truant's footnotes document his descent into obsession, delusions, and paranoia as he compiles the manuscript. He recounts tales of sexual encounters, his lust for a tattooed dancer he calls Thumper, and his bar-hopping with his friend Lude.

Experimental in terms of design, typography, structure and content, this is a fully immersive and novel reading experience you won't be able to forget. The album Haunted also draws heavily from the novel, featuring tracks called "House of Leaves", "Exploration B" and "5&½ Minute Hallway", and many less obvious references. The video for "Hey Pretty" also features Mark Danielewski reading from House of Leaves (pp. 88–89), and in House of Leaves, the band Liberty Bell's lyrics were also songs on Poe's album. The Whalestoe Letters, a compilation of letters written by Truant's mother Pelafina during her committal at The Three Attic Whalestoe Institution, are published both as an appendix to House of Leaves and as a standalone book with additional content.
